We came into this design build project a bit late in the game. There was a pre-existing design already approved by ownership but in need of construction documentation and permitting drawings. Advanced Construction and Development hired us on as the landscape architect after already working with another landscape architect that ultimately couldn't finish the project. We jumped in and were able to influence the overall layout in a way that retained the client's design intent while fitting better to the site's shape and constraints.

The site's amenities include a pool and restroom building being built by the client outside of this scope, a playground shaped like a ladybug, a single pickleball and an elliptical ring walk tying these elements together and connecting sidewalks. Thinking through how users would arrive at the site and where they would be coming from made us question the original design. We believed there was opportunities to provide pedestrian connections that could better link the site elements and connect with the neighborhood and so we worked through a fresh layout, shifting amenities to be closer to utility connections and adding pedestrian connections between amenities. After a few iterations we arrived at an elliptical shape that would tie the site elements together and serve as a perfect place to learn how to ride a bike!

Sketching

Images show early design sketches. These thoughts focused on developing improved circulation between the amenities and unity to the site.
