Sierra Vista is the first amenity site being developed in the Sierra Vista community. Featuring a year-round lazy river attraction, several sports courts, and playgrounds, the design team transformed a simple restroom building into another amenity for residents. The restroom pavilion includes a pump equipment area, storage space, and a pavilion with views of the playground and splash pad. The pool pavilion also boasts a large see-through fireplace.

Sketching

The early studies for the restroom pavilion primarily focused on the relationship between the building program and the outdoor spaces. Many initial iterations featured two separate building volumes connected by a breezeway. As elevation studies progressed, significant attention was given to the design of the roof. The chosen approach involved strategically varying roof heights to reduce the overall mass of the structure.

The Design

Throughout the design process, the floor plan underwent numerous iterations. Consideration for elements such as materiality, allocation of conditioned and unconditioned spaces, structural trusses, and the pavilion's site placement all influenced the final design and layout of the building.

It's Built!

Witnessing the completion of the final building is always gratifying. The ultimate design transformed a simple restroom facility into a destination for families to relax and enjoy the see-through fireplace while the children play in the adjacent splash pad and playgrounds.
