In addition to the various buildings in Oak Hills Lagoon, the Carriage House serves as the first aid center, staff break room, and main facility for most of the lagoon's restrooms and showers. Conveniently located in the northern central area of the lagoon, the building provides easy access for both visitors and employees.

Sketching

Messing around with the program, the volume was initially divided into three sections - First Aid, Break Room for Staff, and Lagoon Restrooms with showers. Those three spaces were constantly shifted around to figure out the best circulation path for not only the visitors, but the staff of the lagoon. Additionally, calculating the restrooms and shower count for the Lagoon, most of the rinsing showers were placed along this building. The shower layout was constantly changing as it was tricky in how the users would utilize that space but make it efficient when they would enter and exit.

The Design

After the massing was mostly established through sketching, the exterior elevation then began to be developed. As the other buildings in Oak Hills Lagoon were also being developed, the Carriage House followed the similar South Carolina aesthetics that the others began to express. However, the Carriage House elevation had to be also designed to be more durable, as the Carriage House will be a high traffic and highly used space for the users of the lagoon. The elevations began from being highly ornate, similarly to the Big House to then a simpler look.
