Kitty Hollow is a new park community center building for Kitty Hollow Park in Fort Bend County. The park sits in an old Oxbow Lake that is now used as regional detention for the area. The park consists of trails, playground areas, a dog park and large green lawns for unstructured play. Our building will complement the park with a large community room open to hold events both for the community but also will be available to rent. The building will have a small full-service kitchen, updated bathrooms to serve the interior and park as well. This building will also serve as a hub for updated electrical and IT services for the entire park. The building's main community space will consist of an open heavy timber structure that will ground the building in the identity of the park.
In the initial Design phase of the project we took a look at main pieces of the program and how do keep organize the large public space with the adjacent utilitarian uses of the kitchen, park utilities and restrooms. The choice in this phase was made to use mass timber in the large gathering space for the aesthetic relation to the parks forest trails but also the all the construction benefits this brings.
