Angel Lagoon, the third Crystal Lagoon to be built in the Houston metropolitan area, stands out as the first public access lagoon in the region. Located in Dayton, Texas, Angel Lagoon promises a year-round hub of activities suitable for all ages. In addition to swimming and beach lounging, the project offers a variety of water-based activities, ranging from kayaking to water slides. Notably, the development features the Aqua Bar, a split-level structure exuding a relaxed beach ambiance with bars on three sides. Visitors can also enjoy dining at Shoreline Grill, which boasts a spacious open-air dining area and bar beneath a distinctive thatch roof. The project includes several restroom and shower facilities, along with a machine room facility that houses offices and all the lagoon pump and filter equipment.
The Angel Lagoon buildings went through several design iterations, evolving from sketches to conceptual renderings. Each iteration brought the design team closer to realizing the client's vision for this resort-like destination. The landscape design is integral to the project, enhancing the tranquil atmosphere and strategically placed to conceal the restrooms and machine room.
Initial concepts featured vibrant colors, but the design later shifted towards a more neutral palette with softer tones to evoke a relaxing beach-like ambiance. Every material, from the restroom wood-like siding to the white furniture fabrics, was carefully chosen to ensure a cohesive aesthetic across the entire site. The Palapa was strategically positioned near the beach, offering diners direct views of activities on the beach and in the water. The Swim-Up Bar was designed with two levels; the lower bar caters to those in the water, while the upper bar serves guests enjoying the white sandy beaches.
